The Azulejo III Portuguese Guitar is a tribute to the artistic expression of a nation. The history of the people is transcribed to the original ceramic pieces, painted in warm colors, which decorate the walls of the seaside country: the tiles, a national icon that Malabar is proud to honor.

This new interpretation of the Portuguese guitar is celebrated in the form of tiles in contrasting colors, carefully hand-painted by our artisans. The Azulejo III Portuguese Guitar is a bold version of the traditional instrument, highlighting the several geometric shapes and the audacious patterns that make it the perfect piece for your home décor.

With the aim of enhancing the Tudo Isto É collection, Malabar conceived the Azulejo IV Guitar showing, in a relaxed way, a magnificent usage for the traditional Portuguese tile. They are one the most important aspects of Portuguese Architecture.

Azulejo or Portuguese Tiles are applied on walls, floors, ceilings, and now on the form of a guitar. The Azulejo IV Guitar exalts a national icon, something Malabar is proud to honor, through an audacious version of the common Portuguese guitar. In the early 80s, objects and furniture were designed to be functional, not decorative. So the Italian-based designer and architect Ettore Sottsass met a group of designers to change this with a more creative design approach. Inspired by the very known art movements back in time, Art Deco and Pop Art Style and Memphis Group was born.

Known for its bright and bold furniture design style, Memphis keeps inspired artists and becomes a trend in interiors and furniture. A dialogue between art, architecture, and design drives over this highly influential 80s inspired the Bohld Side Table design.

It was when the Palace of Ajuda was built and, from there on, several families inhabited it. The palace also underwent some changes through the years, having even been partially destroyed by a fire in the meantime.

Inspired by this exquisite building, with such strong roots, Malabar designers conceived this timeless Cortez Console. Supported by two shapely designed geometric feet, the console’s top is made of lacquered wood finished with high gloss varnish, embellished with gold leaf coated details.

The Cortez console suits every living room with a royalist flair, remembering the kings and queens’ era.

Elegant and simply described as the bastion of Portuguese luxury, the Cortez Dining Table exhales the splendor of the uniqueness of the kings and queens’ era. Its timeless originality and imperial design were inspired by the Palace of Ajuda, a neoclassical monument in the civil parish of Ajuda, in Lisbon.

This piece’s top is made of wood finished with high gloss black varnish surrounded by a subtle line of gold leaf coated elements. The structure is supported by two shapely designed geometric feet in lacquered wood and gold leaf coated semi-spheres. This makes Cortez Dining Table ideal for spacious contemporary rooms.

The Postmodernism movement is notoriously difficult to define. So the best way to characterize this elusive art movement is that it’s a reaction against the utopian ideals of modernism. Over two decades, this bold movement established ideas about art and design, bringing a new self-awareness about style itself.

Refusing to recognize the authority of any single style or definition of what art should be, Malabar creative minds designed this postmodern-inspired Ej Ee bed. The designers meant to create a sensory visual experience through the extravagant and edgy color palette, a combination of different shapes, and contraction.

The Ej-ee cotton velvet upholstered headboard looks like a playful Tetris game where the geometric shapes fit perfectly with each other. The Ej Ee bed creates an artsy focal point on the scheme, making the bedroom a sanctuary for art.

Back in the Summer of 1905, Henri Matisse and André Derain started applying aggressively straight from non-naturalistic color tubes over their paintings. And then the first avant-garde modernist movement was born, the Fauvism, Influenced by the Post-impressionism of Van Gogh and the Neo-Impressionism of Sairat.

In contrast to the dark, these like-minded artists disturb nature, using shapes quite abstract, fierce brushwork, and bright emotive colors. Inspired by the leaders of the movement’s masterpieces, Malabar designers conceived the Fauves Bedside Table.

Artistic-inspired, the Fauves Bedside Table features a wooden structure hand-painted with simple abstract forms but bold colors, adorned with Verde Guatemala marble, supported by a polished brass base. This fauvism-inspired Bedside table was designed to boost any art-filled bedroom.

The surrealist movement changed the way art was defined. Known as the most influential movement in the twentieth century, the surrealists focus on the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination.

Salvador Dalí is memorably recognized for being one of the pioneers of this movement. Besides his wild art, Salvador Dalí was a public personality to match.  Malabar’s designers interpreted the famous painting of Dalí, “Metamorphosis of Narciso”, and designed the surrealistic-inspired Gala armchair.

Supported by four negro Marquina spheres handworked by marble specialized markers, its chubby seating is upholstered in a trendy bouclé textile. The Gala Armchair was designed to be the revolution of your art-filled living room.

Know for his surrealist paintings, Salvador Dalí was one of the most controversial and paradoxical artists of the twenty century. Over the last decades, alongside Picasso and Matisse, Dalí has gradually come to be seen as a prodigious figure whose life and work occupy a central and unique position in the history of modern art.

Painting by Dali in 1952, the Galatea of Spheres depicts Gala Dalí, his wife and muse. This surrealist painting as pieced together through a series of spheres arranged in a continuous array. Playing with scales and spheres, Malabar designers conceived with artistry this future classic armchair.

Handcrafted with expertise by artisans, the Galatea armchair features an asymmetrical design composed by two different feet, a marble sphere and a rectangular walnut wood shape. Malabar designed the Horizon Center Table to honor the discovery times and to remember the Portuguese maritime navigators that discovered unknown lands. These were Portugal’s glorious times. Inspired by the divine vision of a new land sighted from distant waters, the contemporary Horizon Center Table was designed with the organic contours of a coastline in mind.

It honors the discoveries and evokes that the horizon is not a limit, combining walnut wood root with black lacquered wood. The gold leaf on the inner surface, more than an embellishment, indicates the area to be used as a module, with other complementary versions.

The Ih Maj In cabinet is a tribute to craftsmanship,  embellished with a cubism-inspired drawing made with exotic wood veneers, such as white bleached oak,  American walnut, black stained ashwood,  through a marquetry technique.  Supported by two handcrafted legs, cylindrical walnut wood, and rectangular oak legs, the Ih Maj In cabinet interior is made of oak with high gloss colored translucent varnish.

Always curious about new scientific discoveries, the atom become one of Salvador Dalí favorite subjects of reflexion. Dalí borrows the image of a Madonna by Raphael Sanzio to conceived the Maximum Speed of Raphael’s Madonna.

Her breaks up into spheres, geometrically perfect figures, and into forms resembling rhinoceros horns as Dalí unearths logarithmic spiral forms based on the pattern of Divine Proportion. Inspired by the so-called “atomic period” of Dalí, Malabar designers conceived the Madonna stool.

Alexander Rodchenko, considered one of the founders of the Constructivism Movement, sought new art forms and modes of making art. Art, Alexander believed, had no place in the hermetic space of the artist’s studio. Instead, it should reflect the modern. Rodchenko’s work was heavily influenced by Cubism and Futurism, which featured geometric forms deployed against a white background.

Vincent Van Gogh, the famous post-impressionist painter, found his place in art and produced emotional, visually arresting paintings over a decade. Painted by memory, the Starry Night is one of the masterpieces inherited from the misunderstood artist Vincent Van Gogh.

Suppose Design Office, an interior architecture studio, located in Hiroshima, Japan, once created a project that brought wilderness into an urbanistic environment.

Caddo is one of Texas’s few non-oxbow natural lakes and is the second largest in the South, however, it was artificially altered with the addition of a dam in the 1900’s.

The modern Caddo dining table was inspired by this immense natural lake from Texas. Caddo modern dining table’s top is made in Calacatta marble, while the structure is made in brushed brass until the base, also detailed with marble.

The Gateway Arch is an American monument designed by the architect Eero Saarinen and it pays homage to the men who made the western territorial expansion of the U.S. possible.

Designed by the Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, the Gateway Arch National Park is the tallest structure in Missouri. It’s a tribute to St. Louis’s role in the Westward Expansion of the United States during the nineteenth century.
